Third-Party Integration

Make It Happen

SFA clients have essential systems and applications they need to run in order to conduct business as usual. Sounds simple enough, but third-party integrations have to work precisely as the client wants and expects them to work, whether it’s a legacy database or their CRM or an API. No hiccups, no disruption of service — just make it happen.

Third-Party Integration Case Study
Integrating Business Systems That Boost Efficiency

Integrating Business Systems That Boost Efficiency

SFA client O’Neil Cinemas was using the Vista Cinema platform for handling many of their everyday movie theatre operations including: configuring film data, scheduling movies, online ticketing, vouchers and gift cards, loyalty club rewards and account management, and accounting.

We quickly got up to speed on the platform to optimize integration with our redesign of O’Neil’s website. We poured over Vista’s API documentation and performed various tests with their RESTful web services. Ultimately, we wanted more control over UI/UX so we custom developed the movie browsing and showtimes interface and integrated it with the Vista backend for ticketing using their Vista Connect API. As a result, we can now grab high-quality movie poster graphics and trailers automatically from Vista and display them directly with the showtimes ticket purchase links on the website, making it that much easier for customers to decide which movie they want to see.

We also decided early on to upgrade their existing Vista Web backend to the latest version because the previous version wasn’t optimized for mobile users -- 70% of O’Neil’s visitors. Working with O’Neil’s team, we used a separate dev server to perform the Vista upgrade. This allowed us to test the new features and customize/reskin the entire Vista Ticketing, Loyalty, and Gift Card pages without disrupting the current website. We also had weekly meetings with the Vista Tech team to work out all the kinks before the coordinated launch of their new website and upgraded Vista Web backend.

Another major concern of O’Neil’s was to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations which specify movie theatres must display Closed Captioning and Audio Description availability. Working with O’Neil and Vista, we set up a process for O’Neil to enter the ADA information into the Vista software so that we could dynamically pull it through the Vista API for display on the website. We’ve since added Listening Devices and Wheelchair accessibility, and plan to display additional attributes in the future to further improve the moviegoer experience for all users.
